Strike: We are still consulting and no decision has been reached yet - ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU says it is still having consultations on the next line of action it would take concerning the offers made by the Nigerian government for it to end its eight-month strike.

The ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this in a chat with newsmen on Tuesday, December 1.

“We have what the government is offering and have transmitted the same to our members nationwide and we are consulting on what the next line of action will be. You know a tree does not make a forest and our union is democratic in nature and practice.

As for how long the consultation would take, I cannot say but it may go beyond this week. Whatever we decide on is definitely going to be in the national interest, the interest of our children, the interest of our members, and the good of all.”

Recall that last week, the Federal Government pledged to pay N40 billion as the Earned Allowance and N30bn for the revitalization of the university system bringing the total payment to N70 billion. The government has also agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31.

The government also accepted the demand by the ASUU that they are exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System pending the approval of their proposed payment system, the University Transparency, and Accountability Solution.

'I won't resign'- Zinedine Zidane insists after Shakhtar Donetsk complete shock 2-0 win over Real Madrid

Real Madrid head coach, Zinedine Zidane, has insisted that he will not resign, despite another poor performance from his side in a 2-0 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night, December 1, 2020.

Real Madrid's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League last 16 are now in doubt after the match completed a shocking win for the Ukranians over Madrid, weeks after losing 3-2 at home to Shakhtar.

Zidane could be asked by the Madrid hierarchy if results don't improve with Madrid now having lost three of their last five matches.

But he has bullishly said he will not be stepping down.

“I am not going to resign – not at all," he said following Tuesday's defeat.“We have always had delicate moments. It is true that it is a bad streak in terms of results, but we must continue. Today was a final, we prepared very well, but we know there is a game to go and we have to win and that's it."

“I believe in the players and of course I have strength. The other day against Alaves we did not deserve to win but today we did. There is no choice but to work and continue so that the good results return."

After their defeat to Shakhtar, Madrid have conceded nine goals in five Champions League group-stage games, their worst defensive record at this stage in the competition’s history.

But Zidane is optimistic.

“It is a difficult moment but I am convinced that we are going to bring out our character because we have to win the next game,"

"I am convinced that we can do it." he said

Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million since Election Day from supporters by pushing election fraud claims - New report

Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million since Election Day from supporters by pushing election fraud claims - New report

US leader, Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million since Election Day from his supporters by pushing allegations that the election he lost to Joe Biden was rigged, according to a new report by the Washington Post.

According to the report, the huge funds flowed into Trump's joint fundraising committee in less than four weeks after his campaign made fundraising solicitations to his supporters, urging them to donate to an "Election Defense Fund" as the President kept tweeting about a stolen election.

The report also adds that a large share of the funds have ended the Trump campaign's debt and will help fund the President's future political operation as he has no plans to retire politically yet, with a 2024 White Houss sting operation being envisioned.

Less than a week after Election Day, Trump launched The Save America political action committee, meant to fund his post-White House political life.

In an earlier report, The Washington Post first reported that Trump's post-election fundraising had topped $150 million.

A campaign adviser who spoke anonymously to the publication said the fundraising is a big indication that Trump "isn't going anywhere."

The adviser said there are plans for Trump to do some extensive traveling post-presidency, including trips overseas to maintain his visibility.

In recent weeks, Trump's campaign has sent hundreds of fundraising pitches claiming electoral fraud and then asking Trump supporters to sign petitions to "demand a fair election."

Another fundraising pitch sought "$5 IMMEDIATELY to DEFEND the Election from the Radical Left."

In all, the campaign has sent 400 fundraising emails and another 125 texts between 11 p.m. on election night and early Tuesday morning, December 1,2020.

Two states President-elect Joe Biden won by narrow margins -- Arizona and Wisconsin -- on Monday, certified their election results, affirming Biden's victory. Trump's own appointed Attorney General Will Barr also stated on Tuesday that the DOJ and Homeland Security have not seen any evidence of fraud to back Trump's claims of electoral fraud.
