"Arsenal rejecting me made me doubt i would make it in football" - Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

"Arsenal rejecting me made me doubt i would make it in football" - Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace's £17 million ($22m) summer signing, Eberechi Eze, has revealed how his rejection by Arsenal and Fulham at a young age helped propel him to stardom.

Eze, whose mum and dad are Nigerians, has played for England Under-21s' but before he found success he was released by Arsenal aged 13 and tried his luck at a series of other clubs like Fulham, Reading and Millwall, who all declined his services.

Eze worked part-time in a UK shop chain while studying in college, before he was signed by Queen's Park Rangers in 2016.
Fast forward to 2020 and he is now a premier league star.

Eze has now admitted that he was concerned that his dream might never have come to pass.

"Arsenal rejecting me made me doubt i would make it in football" - Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

"Of course, you have doubts," Eze said at England's training centre at St. George's Park on Wednesday.
"You have doubts in your thinking of whether you're going to get your professional contract, whether you're going to be what you hoped you'd be.

"It has built huge resilience in me; I think being released, I'm sure loads of players will tell you this, being released is not the best feeling and you're not in the best space mentally. But of course, as a footballer, not just a footballer, but anyone, you have to be strong, you have to be courageous.

"You have to get back up again, not allow your setbacks to determine where you end up in life. You have to keep moving forward. For me, I feel that's something that was put into me, was forced into me after being released - I had to get up and be strong.

"But for me, it was more the support my family and people around me that continue to instil, that faith in me - and being religious as well.

"Having faith was huge for me, I would always believe that I would get to where I hope to get to and thankfully, and thanks to God, it has worked out."

Eze grew up in Greenwich, London and said he and his family suffered financial troubles before he started making money.
.

"I didn't come from a rich family or anything like that, my parents did what they could and try their best to help me and my brothers and my sister to get through life. I know the struggle that they've been through, it wasn't easy for them even to gather money for us to look after us," he added.

"But that's why it was more of a relief because I can take some pressure off them and help them a bit and it's not so much of a hand-to-mouth sort of situation.

"I finally got the pro contract that I was praying for, endlessly. And for my family, knowing that I'm now in a position where I can grow and progress along if I work hard, I can grow and be able to help them out of whatever situation that we were in back then.

"That's why it was more of a relief because we had been in a situation without a club for a while and was still working hard still doing what we can but the fact that it came eventually and came quite late, it was honestly a grateful moment.

"I can't relax because you're still working hard but a bit of pressure is off now."

Eze, is now as a key player for Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace side but says game hasn't affected his mentality.

"You know how I feel about myself? I feel the same as how I felt when I was at QPR," he continued. "So it's not much of a difference for me. I know other people may look at me differently,  but for me, the way that me and my family have been and how they've helped me and supported me, I can't look at it any differently."

Lionel Messi's father reacts to reports linking him to PSG transfer

 Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi's father and agent, Jorge Messi has reacted to reports that the Barcelona star is considering a move to Paris Saint-Germain next summer.

Messi's future has been a constant debate ever since he expressed his desire to leave Barca.

He ended up not leaving after he was told  that for him to leave in the summer of 2020, his team would have to pay a €700 million release clause.

ESPN published a report this week saying that contact had already been made between the French champions and Messi Sr. in order to broker a deal, with negotiations possible as early as January.

But the agent has now dismissed the story as fake news.

"Stop inventing! Fake news," Jorge fired on Instagram, posting his message over a screenshot of the offending transfer rumour.

Messi is currently in his native Argentina preparing for Thursday's CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier at home to Paraguay.

Messi was left out of the starting line-up by coach Ronald Koeman last weekend although he came on at half-time to contribute two goals and an assist to his side's 5-2 defeat of Betis.

"Messi has shown me to be a person who wants to win things and continue to be the best, even though he has had his problems with the club," Koeman told Sport of his star.

"Barcelona have been, are and will be a better team with Messi than without. When I arrived, they told me that Messi was unhappy.

"We spoke at his house and he explained his reasons to me. I was honest. I told him that the only thing is the system, his position on the field, his importance in the team.

"But the problems that he had had with the club I couldn't change. From the first day I have said the same thing. He is the best and is committed to the club.

"He has had his issues, his problems this summer, but since he returned to training he has been very good.

"He has had bad luck in some games and he has not been able to offer the usual performance, but I am sure that at the end of the season he will have scored the usual goals."

US Elections: After Trump's pressure and voter fraud allegations, Georgia announces plans to conduct full hand count of presidential race ballots

 US Elections: After Trump

Georgia's secretary of state has announced that the state will conduct an audit of the 2020 presidential race, recounting by hand the millions of ballots cast in the state, where news networks stated Joe Biden was the winner.

Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, made the announcement on Wednesday November 11, after facing pressure from President Donald Trump's campaign for a recount, plus calls from fellow Georgia Republicans to resign amid accusations of mismanaging the election process that saw Biden declared winner of the state.

"With the margin being so close, it will require a full by hand recount in each county," Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, said at a news conference in Atlanta.
"This will help build confidence."

"It will be an audit, a recount and a recanvas all at once," he added.

Attention has turned to Georgia where both two high-stakes US Senate races is causing friction among Republicans in the state.

Earlier this week, the two GOP senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, fighting for reelection, demanded Raffensperger resign from office, accusing him without evidence of failing to "deliver honest and transparent elections."

Biden currently leads Trump by more than 14,000 votes in the state a statistic Raffensperger previously said is "unlikely" to be overtaken in a recount.

Trump has not conceded in the race, instead he has made unfounded claims about widespread voter fraud and mail-in ballots.

The Georgia Republican Party, Trump's campaign and US Rep. Doug Collins, a Georgia Republican who's leading the Trump campaign's recount efforts in the state, celebrated on Wednesday calling the decision of the Georgia secretary of state as a victory for "integrity" and "transparency."

"This is an important first step in the process to ensure that the election was fair and that every legal vote was counted," Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said in a call with reporters.

During Wednesday's press conference, Raffensperger denied that the Trump campaign influenced the state's decision.

"We're doing this because it's really what makes the most sense," he said. "With the national significance of this race, and the closeness of this race, we have to run a statewide audit."

Raffensperger said he expects the recount to be done in time for Georgia's certification of the presidential results, which has a November 20 deadline.

Raffensperger said he hopes to start the recount before the week ends. So far, 97 of Georgia's 159 counties have already certified their results, but all of the county certifications are still required by Friday, he said.

Raffensperger said once the results are certified on November 20, a candidate within the 0.5% margin will still be able to request a "recount," but that it would be a "scanned recount" done by machines.

Bandits demand Zamfara farmers pay harvest fee to them before they can harvest their farm produce

Bandits demand Zamfara farmers pay harvest fee to them before they can harvest their farm produce

Bandits in Zamfara are reportedly demanding "Harvest Fees" from Zamfara farmers to allow them harvest their crops in peace.

Farmers made this revelation to BBC Hausa. The farmers were forced to pay bandits to allow them access to their farms at the beginning of the planting season. Now that it's time to harvest their crops, the bandits are demanding as much as 900,000 Naira from farmers in certain villagers before they will allow them carry on harvesting.

Northern youths took to Twitter to complain about this while explaining that this is one of the reasons for the expensive cost of foodstuff in the markets.

Rumour of Governor David Umahi planning to leave PDP for APC is troubling - FFK

Rumour of Governor David Umahi planning to leave PDP for APC is troubling - FFK

Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to report of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state planning to leave the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

FFK who described this as troubling, said he will be seeing the Ebonyi state Governor in the next few days to know the true position of things.

He also called on the National Chairman and the NWC of the PDP to do all they can to keep Umahi on board, as losing him to the APC would be a monumental error and great tragedy.

He tweeted;

The rumour that my friend & brother Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi state is planning to leave @OfficialPDPNig & join @OfficialAPCNg  is troubling. I am yet to confirm if it is true & I will see him in the next few days to know the true position of things but if it is then I urge the leadership of the PDP to do all they can to ensure that he stays.

Not only is he a profoundly good man and an excellent Governor but his contributions to the success of the PDP over the last 20 years at various levels is immesurable and simply extraordinary.

Apart from that he happens to be a good friend of mine & someone I hold in high esteem &have immense respect & affection for. Unlike many he is forthright & his word is his bond. He is either with u or against u, he is fearless & bold &he has the courage of his convictions.

What makes the matter worse is that other Governors or may also contemplate leaving if he does because he has a lot of friends & goodwill amongst them. If that happens it will affect our party's chances in the 2023 presidential election in a very significant way.

Again I call on the National Chairman and the NWC of our great party to do all they can to keep Umahi on board. He is one of our brightest and best and losing him to the APC would be a monumental error and great tragedy.

The fact of the matter is that we need him just as we need everyone else and petty divisions and internal wranglings at this crucial time do not help us. Umahi is a great asset to the party and a source of strength and inspiration to the rank & file right across the country.
