 A 3 year old boy, Captain Chuenbubpha from Samut Prakan, Thailand, accidentally set himself on fire while playing with alcohol hand sanitiser and a lighter, it has been revealed.Captain Chuenbubpha, became engulfed in flames at his home after the highly inflammable santizer gel was squirted on him according to reports.

The incident happened last week Wednesday August 26, when Captain and his older brother Nonoe, five, were playing as they were getting ready for school. Captain poured the gel all over his arms and hands, then splashed it onto his uniform and squirted the contents of the gel container at his brother. 

 His brother in retaliation, squirted it back at the young boy, then the two picked and lit up a cigarette lighter they took from their parents' bedroom drawers .Captain, who had the most alcohol gels on his shirt, was immediately engulfed in flames within a few seconds .

Their uncle, Thanwa Chuenbubpha, who rushed Captain to hospital after hearing his screams has warned other parents about the danger of the gel.

He said he did not know what to do at first after seeing his nephew burning on his neck, chest, and arms.

Thanwa said: "I ran to the kids when I heard them crying. I did whatever I could to stop the fire as soon as possible before it burns the boy more.
"Thanwa said he used his bare hands to kill the flames before tearing the uniform out of the crying boy.
He added: ''I smothered him to put out the flames. They were extinguished quickly but he still had injuries all over his body.''
Captain was later taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The child has recovered well with minor burns after staying at the hospital for one night.

8 cars seized as EFCC arrests 14 suspected fraudsters in Anambra

14 suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by operatives of Enugu State zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Awka, Anambra State.
The suspects who are between the ages of 21 – 28 years were nabbed at Okpuno Awka, Agu Awka and Ngozika estate on Monday August 31. 

Three Mercedes Benz 4matic, three Mercedes Benz AMG and two Lexus Rx salon cars were recovered from the suspects. 

EFCC Head of Media, Dele Oyewale said in a statement; 

“Interim analyses of some of the suspects’ phones indicated they were involved in some suspected internet fraud which, include online bitcoin scam, love scam and identity theft”

He added that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

NDDC pays 197 stranded UK scholarship students N2.28bn

The students recently took to the streets in London to demand payment of their tuition and stipends.

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it has paid over 5.910 million U.S dollars (about N2.28 billion) for tuition and stipends owed stranded scholarship students in the United Kingdom.

Mr Charles Odili, NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Monday that the commission disbursed the sum to 197 scholarship beneficiaries of 2019.

He added that the commission had also begun processes for the payment of school fees owed 94 scholarship beneficiaries for 2018 batch.

"Among the 197 beneficiaries are 43 scholars for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), comprising 12 for 2016 and 31 for 2019.

"The beneficiaries under this category got 30,000 dollars (N11.56 million) each, amounting to 1.29 million dollars (N496.65 million).

"In the Master of Science (MSc), category, 154 beneficiaries of 2019 were paid 30,000 dollars each, amounting to 4.42 million dollars (N1.702 billion).

"In addition, the payment processes for 94 beneficiaries of 2018: 40 for Ph.D. and 54 MSc beneficiaries are ongoing," Odili stated.

Odili said the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC commend the determination of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, in seeing to the payment of the students.

The NDDC spokesman blamed the delayed payment to the death of Chief Ibanga Etang, the then acting Executive Director of Finance and Administration (EDFA), of NDDC.

"Under NDDC finance protocol, only the EDFA and the Executive Director of Projects can sign for the release of funds from the commission’s domiciliary accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

"The NDDC foreign scholars represent the future manpower and professionals that we are building to help transform the Niger Delta region.

"The foreign scholarship scheme started in 2010, with objective to address the dearth of qualified professionals in the oil and gas sector," he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that some NDDC-sponsored scholarship students recently took to the streets in the United Kingdom to demand payment of their tuition and stipends.

After the protest, President Muhammadu Buhari on August 5 directed the immediate payment of the fees owed the students.

Undergraduate convicted for internet fraud ordered to clear drainage for 3 months

A fourth year student of the University of Ilorin has been convicted for internet fraud by the Kwara State High Court.

Akinsanya Olamide Ridwan was arraigned before the court on a one-count charge, bordering on internet fraud and other things fraud-related offences by the Ilorin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC).

He was accused of pretending to be a white man called Alex James to defraud an unsuspecting white woman, Stewart Sonia, on a dating site called Hangout.

The EFCC discovered fraudulent messages in his email account after he was arrested in March 2020.

Ridwan pleaded guilty before the court on Monday, August 31, and was sentenced to community service and a fine of N50,000 by Justice Sikiru Oyinloye.

He was ordered to clear the drainage from Bekind Filling Station near Tipper Garage, Tanke up to the gate of the University of Ilorin for three months commencing from September 2.

Justice Oyinloye said the convict must get a notice of clearance from the Registrar of the University of Ilorin, and the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Failure to do so would attract six months imprisonment.

Two teens and two adults found dead in home in ‘murder suicide’

Four people, two teenagers and two adults believed to be a family, have been found dead at an Ohio home in what police investigators are calling a murder suicide.

The four bodies were found at the scene in Shaker Heights, Cleaveland, OH, according to Shaker Heights Police after they were called to a welfare check at the request of a family member at about 2.20pm on Sunday, August 30th.

According to Shaker Heights police, there was no forced entry into the home, and they do not believe there are any additional suspects in the deaths.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the names of those found dead according to reports..

A neighbor speaking to reporters said the family had only been at the home for one year after moving from Hudson.

She said that they were good neighbors and the teenagers were "top of the line young people".

The neighbor added that the twins, believed to be 14, would check on their cat when she and her husband would go out of town, or go on trips.

As at press time, police say they are still investigating and will reveal more details about their investigations to the media.

Islamic teacher and one other arrested for allegedly raping a teenager (photo)

An Islamic teacher, Ismaila Saheed, 38, and one Toliha Sabith, 20, have been arrested by men of the Ogun state police command for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl (names withheld).

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the duo were arrested over the weekend by detectives attached to Redeemed Camp Police Station after the victim reported that they raped her on August 25, at Mowe.

According to the police, the victim reported that she was first raped by Sabith at Imedu_nla in Mowe and went to report the case to her Islamic teacher who also took advantage of her under the guise of helping her remove an imaginary pregnancy gotten from the first defilement.

 “She said she was raped by Sabith and she went to her Islamic and Arabic teacher to tell him about it. Having listened to her ordeal, the Arabic teacher Ismaila Saheed told her that she might have gotten pregnant as a result of the incident and he offered to help her remove the said pregnancy.

“Surprisingly, instead of removing the imaginary pregnancy, he also had carnal knowledge of her, after which he inserted a sharp object into her private part causing her a serious vaginal injury” the statement read

According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bala Yakubu was said to have detailed operatives to go after the culprits who were eventually apprehended on Friday, August 28.

Oyeyemi added that both men have reportedly confessed to the crime and would be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.

The 33-year-old has a clause in his deal allowing him to leave at the end of any season, and reports last week claimed that Messi’s camp believe that it has been extended in line with the prolonged 2019/20 season.

However, the statement from La Liga says they will only allow Messi to be released from his Barcelona contract if his release clause is matched or the Camp Nou club negotiate a sale.

They said: "In relation to the different interpretations (some of them contradictory to each other) published in recent days in different media, related to the contractual situation of the player Lionel Andrés Messi with FC Barcelona, LaLiga wishes to clarify that with regards to the player's contract with his club:

The contract is currently in force and has a "termination clause" applicable to the event that Lionel Andrés Messi decides to activate the early unilateral termination of the contract, carried out in accordance with article 16 of Royal Decree 1006/1985, of June 26, which regulates the special employment relationship of professional athletes.

In compliance with the applicable regulations, and following the corresponding procedure in these cases, LaLiga will not carry out the prior visa process for the player to be removed from the federation if they have not previously paid the amount of said clause."

Messi failed to report for coronavirus testing at Barcelona's training complex as he continues his battle to leave the club.

Lagos records 15 new cases as NCDC announces 138 more cases

Nigeria has now recorded a total of 53,835 cases of COVID-19 infections following the announcement of 138 new cases in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new cases on Sunday, August 30, 20202, in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to the NCDC, the bulk of the new cases were confirmed in Plateau State with 55 cases.Surprisingly, Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria recorded only 15 cases, while Ebonyi and Oyo states recorded 11 cases each.

In Abia, eight cases were detected, Seven each in Anambra, Abuja and Rivers, six in Kaduna, five in Ondo, three in Kwara and one case each in Bauchi, Benue and Edo state.

The NCDC’s update on Sunday also showed that 199 patients recovered from the virus and were discharged from isolation centres.
