Man arrested for defiling his friend's seven-year-old daughter in Anambra; blames the devil

 Man arrested for defiling his friend

The police in Anambra state have arrested 46-year-old Ifeanyi Atogu of Ofenta Nsugbe in Anambra East LGA of the state for allegedly defiling his friend's seven-year-old daughter.

 

A statement released by the command's spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, says the suspect allegedly lured his friend's daughter who is deaf and dumb and had unlawful carnal knowledge with her on September 24.

 

According to the statement, police detectives took the victim to the hospital for medical Examination where penetration was confirmed by the medical doctor.

 

Haruna said the suspect has voluntarily confessed and attributed his act to the devil's influence and manipulations.

 

The spokesperson said the case would be transferred to the State criminal investigation department for discreet investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP John B.Abang, after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.

Police sergeant arrested for killing one and injuring 3 persons in Sokoto

A Police Sergeant identified as Bello Garba has been arrested and detained for allegedly shooting one person to death and injuring three others in Sokoto on Friday September 25. 

 

According to the state police command, the arrested policeman shot 25-year-old Aminu Abdulrahman to death and injured Junaidu Abba, Babangida Muhammad and Awaisu Alti.

 

Police spokesperson in the state, ASP Muhammad Sadiq said victims of the incident were sharing money doled out by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal during the Juma’at prayers to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary, held at Sultan Bello Jumu’at mosque.

 

The statement read; 

 

“The policeman unprofessionally fired without reasonable justification at that material time. The Sokoto State Police Command condemns in its entirety the unwarranted, uncivil and unprofessional conduct of a Police Sergeant on special duty in the state.

”Commissioner of Police. Mr Sani Kaoje had ordered the detention and trial of the erring officer and charged the state Criminal Investigation Department to speed up investigation and come up with objective findings. 

”The incident occurred at about 2:30pm, shortly after the special Juma’at prayers offered in commemoration of Nigeria’s forthcoming 60th independence anniversary at Sultan Bello Juma’at Mosque.

”The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal while magnanimously giving out gifts to the needy, a brief distribution which gave birth to an upsurge in would-be beneficiaries.

“However, in an unconventional effort to control the crowd after the departure of the governor the policeman fired the shot."

 

The police spokesman added that victims of the incident were evacuated to Specialist Hospital Sokoto for treatment and autopsy.

NLC to go ahead with Monday protest despite court order

The Nigeria Labour Congress has insisted on going ahead with its planned mass action scheduled for Monday September 28, despite a fresh court order obtained by the Federal Government on Friday September 25, barring them and the Trade Union Congress from embarking on their planned strike. 

 

The organized labour's General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja in a communique addressed to its members told them to come out in large numbers to protest against the increased fuel price and electricity tarrif. 

 

All National Leadership of affiliates in Abuja were directed to mobile at least 2000 of their members to Unity Fountain, Abuja for the mass rally which takes off at 7am.

 

Affiliates are also expected to mobilise the same number of members to the NLC Sub-Secretariat, 29, Olajuwon Street, Yaba, Lagos, which is the take-off point for the Lagos action at 7am also.

 

It is also expected that all Presidents and General Secretaries will lead and identify with their members at the take-off point.

Eight policemen, three soldiers, and four Civilian Joint Task Force operatives were killed after the convoy of the Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, was again attacked by Boko Haram terrorists along the Baga Highway in the state on Friday, September 25.

 

According to reports, the governor had left Maiduguri for Baga to prepare for the planned return of internally displaced persons from Maiduguri to the camps in Baga when his convoy was attacked by the terrorists.

 

The attack comes barely two months after Governor Zulum was attacked around the same axis by the insurgents on his way from Baga.

Togo's Prime Minister Komi Selom Klassou and his government have resigned in a political reshuffle delayed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

 

The resignation came after President Faure Gnassingbe won his re-election in March, extending his 15-year-old rule and a family dynasty that began when his father took power in a 1967 coup.

 

Komi Selom Klassou has served as prime minister since 2015. Commenting on the resignation of the prime minister, Gnassingbe congratulated Klassou and his team for their "economic, political and social efforts and the encouraging results despite the health crisis around the world."

 

The presidency did not say when a new prime minister would be appointed.
