The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has warned youths taking part in #EndSARS protests across the country to be careful of the demonstration.

Zulum who spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday November 6, stated that the Boko Haram crisis in the North Eastern part of the country started with protests by youths against the use of motorcycle helmets in the state capital in Maiduguri.

The Borno state Governor said;

“On the issue of #EndSARS, I am calling on all Nigerians especially the youths to be very careful.

“The whole Boko Haram saga started as a result of the protests by some youths in Maiduguri against the use of helmet by motorcycle riders. You have seen the situation now.

“Over one million people have been displaced and the most affected population are the vulnerable, the youth.

“Some of those that led the protests have left Borno State, they are either staying in Abuja or Lagos or abroad. we have to be very careful.”

Zulum added that the #EndSARS protest didn't take the twist it took in Lagos because youths were advised to think it through.

He added;

“Now, there is emerging peace in Borno State and we don’t want anybody to disrupt the peace.

“The youths are with us, we are taking very good care of them, palliatives are being distributed to them as and when due.

“We are giving them some certain financial supports and I think the best way every Nigerian should seek for his/her right is through legitimate means, otherwise we are not going anywhere. Peace is very important."

Lagos state government confirms fresh COVID-19 cases in a boarding school in the state

 Lagos state government confirms fresh COVID-19 cases in a boarding school in the state

Lagos State Government has confirmed the discovery of fresh COVID-19 cases in a secondary boarding school on the mainland.

The state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, disclosed this today November 6. According to Professor Abayomi, a member of the school’s staff tested positive for COVID-19 on November 2.

“Contact tracing has revealed that a student and four contacts of the staff member are positive for COVID-19. The staff member fell ill for a few days and received first aid at the school clinic. She subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday 2nd of November at the Lagos State Biobank.

The Lagos State COVID-19 Incident Command System through the Emergency Operation Centre is investigating the incident, and we would like to assure members of the public and stakeholders of the school that the situation is completely under control.”

Abayomi said efforts are currently being made to contain the spread of the virus.

“All parents are being contacted first through the PTA and a family zoom call is being arranged to further allay their fears. It is important to note that COVID-19 presents with very mild symptoms in children and teenagers, compared to other age groups.

However, there is the risk of infected children transmitting the disease to adults who they interact with daily, and who may be at higher risk of severe disease and death.

The school authorities, supported by Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Ministry of Education, are following the COVID-19 guidelines as set out by the government.

Students who test positive are to be isolated in the school premises and, if unwell, will be admitted in one of the accredited isolation centers in Lagos. Students are discouraged from going home to avoid infecting members of their families.” Abayomi said

This development comes barely a month after 181 students and staff of a private school in Lekki, Lagos state tested positive for the virus.

 Proposed #EndSARS protest: Lagos state police command withdraws its officers from individuals

Press statement from Lagos state police command

''In preparation for the proposed Endsars protest to be staged by some individuals and hired groups to cause mayhem and security threats in Lagos State, the Lagos State Police Command has ordered the commanders of the Mobile Police Squadrons and Special Protection Unit in Lagos State to withdraw their men from  individuals who are not entitled to police aides and escorts in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, to augment its strength.

The Command has deemed it necessary to mop up more mobile men to be deployed across the length and breadth of the state for any eventualities as the police is no longer ready to condone any act of lawlessness, brouhaha and state of anarchy in Lagos State.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has put all police personnel and other security agents in the state on red alert, while he charged them to be professional and act according to the provisions of the law, either in quelling riots or for self defence.

The command had warned against any "peaceful" or violent protest whatsoever in the state to avert further breakdown of law and order, killings, burning and lootings that marred the recent Endsars violent protest in the state.

The Command therefore reiterates its commitment to  maintenance of law and order and prevent any act that is capable of causing pains, anarchy and losses of lives and property in the state.''
