He wants to have all the facts which will be made public - Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare explains why Buhari did not talk about Lekki shooting

Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare has explained why President Buhari did not speak on the Lekki toll gate shooting in his speech yesterday October 22.

The Minister in an interview on Arise TV said the President has ordered an investigation into the incident. Dare added that Buhari wants to have all the facts which will be made public.

He said;

“For sure, the president has ordered an investigation. He had a national security meeting yesterday. I can tell you that this is already ongoing because the president wants to have all the facts which will absolutely be made public.

“It is important to get all the facts right before we go forward, in this case. It’s going to be difficult to hide these facts because we live in a multimedia world and we have pieces of evidence and corroboration and I think it is important to get the facts right.

“I think that’s the part the president has towed and I am sure that when the facts are made available, this president – because he has integrity – will level with the Nigerian people about what happened on Tuesday in Lekki.

“Previously, we just had lip service that SARS scrapped. For the first time, you have a presidential pronouncement that SARS has been dissolved followed by the inspector-general and then we saw quick steps thereafter.

“And I think when you look at what has happened in the past and the level of responsiveness and concrete steps, the whole five demands of the youth were wholeheartedly accepted by the president and he set up a process.”

Former NFL player, Dana Stubblefield sentenced to 15 years to life for raping a disabled woman

Former San Francisco 49ers player, Dana Stubblefield has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the 2015 rape of a developmentally disabled woman.

The Santa Clara District Attorney's Office said in a statement the 49-year-old was sentenced on Thursday, October 22, by a judge in San Jose after denying a defense motion for a new trial.

He was convicted in July following a nine-month trial after a jury found him guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force, and false imprisonment after having lured the woman to his home with the promise of babysitting work. The jury also found that he used a gun in the assault.

 A day before the April 2015 assault, Stubblefield contacted the then 31-year-old woman on a baby-sitting website and arranged an interview, prosecutors said.

The Morgan Hill Police Department said the woman's interview lasted about 20 minutes. She later received a text from Stubblefield saying he wanted to pay her for her time that day, and she went back to the house.

After raping her, Stubblefield gave her $80 and let her go. But on her way home, the woman immediately went to the police and reported the rape, the report said.

"'No' meant nothing to this defendant," said Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerny. "Based on his status, I think he was never held accountable for prior criminal behavior. Today, he was properly held accountable."

Stubblefield's attorney, Allen Sawyer disagreed with the jury's finding, saying: "We are as adamant as ever that Mr. Stubblefield is innocent," he told CNN.

He believes the victim is not intellectually disabled and says the evidence to prove it was excluded from the trial.

Sawyer also disclosed he will file an appeal with the hope of 'reintroducing excluded evidence, arguing additionally that holding a trial during a pandemic created an atmosphere that unduly impacted the jurors' decision.

Stubblefield played in the NFL as a defensive tackle starting in 1993, when he won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year with the 49ers. He also played for Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders but retired due to an injury shortly after being signed by the New England Patriots in 2004.

He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 1997, made three All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams, and he won a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX.

The proud new dad shared the good news in an open letter he wrote to his baby boy which he posted on his Instagram page this morning. It read;

Dear Son,

We live in a time when no one wants to take the responsibility to say what's right and what's wrong,
when no one wants to be told what to believe or what not to believe, when people want to have titles but not work or be responsive to their functions, when people lack a sense of duty, where the lunatics have taken over the asylum and the doctors are the ones in straight jacket. You will come to realize that the world we have made is also the world we have failed.

You have made your way into this world. I want you to be a man of good heart, who reaches out to the world around him with an open mind and a gentle touch, I want you to be a man of belief but not a man of judgement, I want you to choose always to speak with empathy, caring and kindness no matter your voice or purpose, I want you to serve as a shepherd first and then a king, hold honor and truth at all times and never forget the son of whom you are as you journey to finding your rightful place in this world.

To be such a man, you must not be afraid to be vulnerable in times when it is required of you to stand up and to speak from your heart, you should create a place in your heart to hear voices that speak with empathy, compassion and realism about the issues of becoming a man.

And so I take my place among those attempting to provide such a voice as I watch with eager anticipation and anxiousness as you take your every step to finding your place amid the confusion and cacophony of life.

Having you brought clarity and an earnest wonder that has set me on a course that I think will reenergize my years to come, it showed me that I could, and should, indeed I must be my best self and like a wise and gentle friend, I will guide you to the truths that emerge when you approach life openly and honestly.

On this journey to you knowing God (which is a life-long journey), learning to love, living life, passing through the stages of manhood and the wisdom that comes thereof, God will encapsulate you and order your every step, you will always be a blessing of grace, your mother will be with you, I will hold your hand and guide you through your decisions. So help me God.

Yours Truly,

Daddy.''

Mob burn Nnamdi Azikiwe's statue in Anambra

A mob in Anambra state has set the statue of the pioneer President of Nigeria, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, on fire in Onitsha.

The statue was at Denis Memorial Grammar School Roundabout, Awka Avenue, Onitsha, known as Zik Roundabout. While the mob were on a rampage, they doused the statue with petrol before setting it on fire.

As they burnt the statue, the mob were shouting “You put us in this mess by championing one Nigeria,” “You are the cause of our trouble,” amongst other uncomplimentary remarks.

In several parts of the country, hoodlums hijacked the #EndSARS protest, causing wanton destruction of lives and properties and forcing different state government's to impose curfew.
