ASUU to suspend strike soon, says Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, says the Academic Staff Union of Universities would soon suspend its strike.

Ngige gave the hint during an interview onChannels Television’s Politics Todayaired Tuesday evening and monitored by our correspondent.

He explained that the Ministries of Finance, Education, Labour and Employment and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation will meet with ASUU to resolve the disagreement on the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

The PUNCHreports thatof the Federal Government to honour its 2019 agreement.

But Ngige said the FG was ready for an integrity test of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution developed as an alternative to IPPIS by the varsity lecturers.

He noted that FG would consider the UTAS if it addresses the shortcomings identified in IPPIS.

He said, “The issue of ASUU will soon come to an end. Two reasons – ASUU have called the Federal Government, represented by Finance and the Accountant-General Office and their direct employers, the Ministry of Education to come for the test.

“We are ready to do that. After the independence day celebration, the four ministries and agencies involved will gather together with ASUU. We will look at the UTAS. If there are shortcomings with IPPIS as complained which UTAS have corrected. What’s wrong about it? It is software, we will look at it.

“Secondly, ASUU members have been collecting their money since COVID-19 came and I wrote a memo to Mr president that ASUU members are still Nigerians. Even the members, have families that they care for. By upper week, we are going to arrange for this demonstration.”

ASUU had rejected IPPIS, insisting that it violates university autonomy and proposed the UTAS as an alternative.

President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, earlier explained that there was nowhere in the world where IPPIS is being implemented that universities are put under the civil service.

He said if Nigeria wanted to have 21st-century universities, with global ranking, it cannot be achieved through IPPIS.

“This is because IPPIS will shut the door against scholars who are to come from outside Nigeria, scholars who are not on the pensionable appointment within the system.

“IPPIS will bring universities under direct civil service control and the system does not work that way.

“That kind of system will kill innovation, will kill creativity and it will kill academic freedom and autonomy.”

Online sports betting trends in 2020

Online sports betting industry, like any other industry is continuously transforming and adjusting to environmental, business and technology changes. If we think about sports betting itself, moving to an online mode of betting has been a transformational journey for the business. It has become much more popular than it once was and in order for players to remain relevant, it is imperative to stay up to date and ready to adapt to these changes. Sports popularity across various sports has been increasing over the years and viewership has increased manifold. This has also benefitted the sports betting industry and the business has also grown manifold. Let us look at some of the major trends in online sports betting in 2020.

eSports

eSports may not be physical like most other sports, but they have given a huge boost to the betting industry. They’re highly competitive and that gives grounds for betting industry to prosper. The edge that eSports have over conventional sports is the ability to host events in the worst of circumstances. While people being stuck at their homes has delayed most sporting events, eSports remains unaffected and are doing just fine. Many authorities are also looking at eSports as a means to curb cheating.

Online sports betting trends in 2020

Player Tracking

Earlier, people betting on players had to go to various forums to research the players and make educated bets. While information was available but information was not as accessible as it is now. The introduction of good betting sites has given a great tool to these people because it allows tracking of all information related to the player, all at one place without the need for searching across various platforms. With further advancements, it might become possible to track the player performance using smart wearables. This will help punters place more accurate bets with a more thorough analysis.

Last-minute Betting

Technology has revolutionized all industries. While earlier betting used to be done by manually visiting the stores and buying tickets, it has now moved to online sports betting portals. For instance, now you can avail the best UFC betting odds, from right within the comfort of your living room! This has completely changed the betting game. Furthermore, earlier people had to buy their tickets in advance but now with online betting, they can bet on something down till the last minute, and even as the action unfolds on the pitch. While seasoned punters are generally experienced enough to place well-informed bets in advance to register maximum profits, most beginners opt for last minute or live bets.

Opening of the US Market

Countries such as UK and Australia had already made betting legal but US was still undecided and this was a major roadblock in adoption of online betting websites. But lately, many states in USA have started to allow sports betting and have been looking at it as a source of revenue. With USA coming to the fold, eSports as well as regular sports betting seems to have a bright future ahead!

#BBNaija: ''Keep the same energy now'' Nengi’s management calls out actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday for being "two-faced"

The management of BBNaija star, Nengi, are not hiding their dislike for actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday and have taken to Instagram to call her out.

Shortly after Nengi was evicted from the show during the finale last night September 27, Nkechi went on Nengi's Instagram page to wish her well. She wrote

''Love and Light Beautiful''

Nengi's management found it deceitful and called her out. According to them, Nkechi "de-campaigned" Nengi while she was in the show. They claim Nkechi went as far as calling Nengi names. They asked her to keep the same energy.

@nkechiblessingsunday But you de-campaigned her at every given point and called her names on that CMC love when all we wanted was a chance to promote Nengi. Nne!! Keep the same energy''

Game Of Thrones star, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson and his wife Kelsey Henson announce the birth of their first child?

Sharing a story of their son's birth on his page, the proud father wrote:

26.09.2020

.

6am Kelsey woke me up telling me she had been losing her water, I immediately jumped out of bed and said alright let’s go, she stayed calm and replied with a laugh and said, no we are not going yet. I then asked to call our midwives to which she replied again no let’s just wait for awhile.

.

7:15am we call our friend to come photograph the labour, the midwife and doula. Once the midwife arrived she checked out the progress and we were surprised to learn Kelsey was already 5cm dilated. The midwife asked if she was ready to go to the birthing centre or wanted to try out that bath at home and Kelsey, still remaining calm, decided to try the bath at home. While I was filling up the bath things started escalating quickly, the contractions were much stronger lasting over a minute and were anywhere from 2-3 min apart. The midwife then said she thought we should head to the clinic and finally Kelsey agreed it was time.

.

8:40am. We arrived at the Bjo?rkin, the birthing centre, after a quick 10 min drive. Right away Kelsey knew exactly what she wanted and asked how long until the birthing pool would be filled. The next fifteen minutes Kelsey paced around between contractions waiting for the tub to be filled.

.

9:00am She was in the tub and immediately started to push. Things escalated super quickly. Throughout it all she did amazing. She was in complete control of her mind and body. She had strong opinions on exactly what she wanted and where she wanted to be. I am completely in awe of how strong she is, and so proud of her for everything she did to prepare herself throughout her pregnancy. It cannot be put into words how proud I am and how I feel about this experience.

.

11:19am After an extremely hard 2 hours and 19 mins of pushing our healthy, strong, beautiful boy arrived weighing 3530 grams, 52 cm long.

.

To finish the most beautiful, awe inspiring labour was the most wonderful phone call to my daughter to introduce her to her new little brother

.

5:30pm We arrive back at home both mom and baby doing super well and spent our first night as three together.

.

We have decided on a name and cannot wait to share it with you all soon.

Björnsson is also dad to daughter Theresa Líf, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Thelma Björk Steimann.

Jadon Sancho: Dortmund to accept Man United's last offer

United who have been struggling with getting an agreement with borussia Dortmund has finally gotten a glimmer of hope as reports states that Dortmund will be willing to accept United's final offer of 90million pounds plus bonuses that will rise to 108million pounds.

Jadon Sancho Transfer updates

This is a great news for Man United as Sancho's return to England draws closer. Man United have seen bids rejected for the sensational winger and are now likely to see out the deal next week.

United initially had a 90million bid rejected three weeks ago by Dortmund who insisted on 108million pounds with no installmental payments accepted.

Although United will drop a take it or leave it deal of 90million pounds plus bonuses which is far more improved than the installmental payments United asked for.

And now Jadon Sancho is likely to be a United player from now till the end of next week,

provided Borussia Dortmund might listen to and accept the offer after all.

Sancho is also keen on joining Manchester United this summer,United will turn to other alternatives if the deal falls through but with all reports Dortmund are willing and might accept the improved offer from United.

Man United are so close to a deal now the only thing that can make it not to happen is Dortmund's refusal,

but all seems to be going the right way for United as there is a very high chance of Sancho's arrival right now.

Sancho is coming

Jadon Sancho will join fellow compatriots Marcus rashford and Mason greenwood to bluster the Man United attack for the ongoing season.

The deal is set to be tabled and announced this week. The deal might certainly go through this time.

I Knelt Down Before Bisi Akande, Tinubu To Beg For Buhari’s Presidential Ticket In 2011 – Dasuki

Col. Dasuki Sambo

The former National Security adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, Sambo Dasuki, has revealed how he campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari to become the flag bearer of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) joint ticket in 2011.

Dasuki in a new book, ‘An Encounter with the Spymaster’, written by a Yushau Shuaib, a public relations professional said he worked to ensure that General Buhari emerged the candidate for the ACN/CPC joint ticket.

The former NSA said he had to kneel before a former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, in the presence of Bola Tinubu to beg on behalf of General Buhari.

Shuaib in his book said: “The major shocker for me in his (Dasuki) narratives was his campaign for Buhari to emerge the joint candidate for the ACN and CPC in 2011.”

He disclosed how he pleaded with Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu in the presence of Bisi Akande to accept Muhammadu Buhari as the joint presidential candidate for ACN and CPC.

“Dasuki stated that he knelt down begging ‘Baba Bisi Akande’ who was the then chairman of the ACN that, “Buhari is a man to be trusted.”

Shuaib added: “In their believe that Yorubas and South Westerners are never religious fanatics especially regarding politics, Dasuki and his group suggested that Tinubu should be a running mate to Buhari.”

“When other elements opposed that preposition, Tinubu’s team, therefore recommended a Buhari-Osinbajo ticket,” he said.

He however added that the ticket failed to stick as Tunde Bakare was eventually pushed forward by other forces.
